Coastal Gallery at ArtSway 2017

This year’s show will include works by Martyn Brewster, Julie Collins, Stephen Powell, Jennie Slater, Michael Turner, Chris Whittaker and Jo Vane; and a stunning collection of ceramics by Jackie Giron and Arek Nowicki. New to the 2017 show will be work by some of Coastal Gallery’s prestigious visiting artists, including artist and ‘visual alchemist’, Biddy Hodgkinson, artist and sculptor, Ingrid Sterling and painter and designer, Gohar Goddard.

We are also delighted to announce that the Shoreditch-based OPEN DATA INSTITUTE, founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee and Sir Nigel Shadbolt, will support Gallery Three. Under the title ‘DATA AS CULTURE’, the gallery space will bring together an innovative collection of digitally inspired and created artwork by young emerging Hampshire artists and leading London-based guest artists.

The London-based guest artists will be Conceptual Pop artist and fashion icon, Duggie Fields, and digital artist, Julie Freeman. Fields is very much a digital artist, as well as a painter. Using London as his inspiration, Field’s video installations create fantastical, psychedelic digital versions of the city we all know and love – ‘ a whirlwind of culture references and media bombardment’. Freeman is a pioneering visual, audio and digital artist who explores the relationship between science, nature and the way humans interact with it. She is founder of FINE ACTS, a TED Senior Fellow and Art Associate at the OPEN DATA INSTITUTE in London.

A series of daily artists’ talks and workshops will take place throughout the exhibition, and an exhibition ‘pop-up’ shop will sell an eclectic collection of cards, prints, ceramics and accessories. This will include exclusive handmade jewellery by Jo Vane, limited edition prints by Bev Saunders and Stewart Mechem, ceramics by Jackie Giron and Arek Nowicki, luxurious scarves by English Weather and candles and room diffusers by the Spitalfields Candle Company.

Saturday 19th August to Monday 28th August : open daily from 10am to 5pm

Coastal Gallery and Hampshire Open Studios will host a VIP Private View to launch the exhibition at ArtSway on Friday 18th August 2017.
